Training your dog to obey your commands and orders has to be started early in life. There are numerous ways to discipline him and make him understand what is correct and wrong. Reinforcement techniques are considered one of the best methods for grooming a dog in the right manner.

There are two types of reinforcement techniques, namely positive and negative reinforcement techniques. Here, a stimulus is introduced into the environment right after an activity. This stimulus could be in a positive or negative manner.

For example, if your dog obeys your command and behaves appropriately, you can reward him with his favorite food or toy. This will make your pet understand that his behavior is being appreciated and accepted by his owner. This is a form of positive stimulus. On the other hand, if your pet refuses to carry out a particular activity or command, you can reprimand him by not giving his favorite food or toy. You can also ignore him until he behaves properly. This will make the animal understand that his behavior is not pleasing to his owner. He will therefore try to rectify his behavior. This is an example of negative reinforcement.

However, extreme pressure and force should never be applied to discipline animals. This will affect their psyche immensely and make them feel lonely. This in turn will have a negative effect on their behavior and character. They will not be chirpy and energetic if extreme force is applied. When animals are stressed, they release this negative pressure in numerous ways. They may become extremely aggressive or turnout to be complete introverts.
