Examples Of Negative Punishment

Animals have to be treated with a lot of care and attention. If you find a particular behavior of theirs not appealing, you can train them in numerous methods to rectify their behavior and listen to your command. You have to understand that dogs take time to understand why their behavior seems offensive to you.

You should never use brute force or stern techniques to make your dog understand what is right and wrong. Extreme force will have a negative impact on the animal’s mind forcing him to get affected psychologically.

Negative punishment is an effective method to condition your pet. Negative does not necessarily mean harsh tactics. In his method, you simply remove or introduce a stimulus into the environment making the animal understand that the particular behavior is not accepted by you. For example, if your dog has a habit of lunging on you each time you come home, simply disapprove the behavior by ignoring him. Eventually, the dog will realize that you do not like his behavior and will crave for more attention. When he calms down, look at him and speak affectionately. This will make the dog understand that lunging forwards is not well accepted by his owner. This will prevent him from repeating the same mistake next time around.

Similarly, if your dog does not listen to your commands or orders each time, you can remove his favorite toys and stack them up elsewhere until he improves his behavior. Removing his favorite items is the type of negative stimulus being introduced here after an unacceptable behavior. This will make the dog understand that he has to listen to your orders in order to play with his toys.
