Having your dog under control and disciplining it to perform certain activities has to be started early in life. Animals can be trained with easy when they are younger. This is because their minds are fresh and will respond better to commands at a younger age. It is a little difficult to make them perform activities when they are older. Making your dog stay in a particular place requires early training. However, it is never too late to begin the training process. |

The “stay” command requires a little extra effort on your part because dogs are naturally energetic and lively. This command is of extreme importance when you want your dog to stay put when you are busy or are involved in other household activities. Start training for a short duration of time and slowly increase the training process.
Use a leash and a collar initially. Ask your dog to sit. Once he sits, pat him on his back and reward him with food. Next, ask him to stay in that position in a loud clear voice. Your voce should sound firm. You can use your dog’s name as well. For example, say “Jimmy, STAY”. Hold your hand up simultaneously for a second or two. Then, say “OKAY” and get your hand down. This will make the dog understand that he is free to move around. Reward him each time. You can perform this activity two to three times a day for five to ten minutes. Slowly increase the time of “STAY” for a couple of minutes and more.
