How To Train The Guard Dog ?

Guard dog training includes a lot of techniques and also some information about the behavior of the dog. It is better to get your dog trained using the help of a professional.

Obedience is a very important phase of training a guard dog. Guard dogs are expected to obey their masters. Use hand signals and teach them to obey your verbal commands like stay, sit down and heel. Make sure that the dog is responding to your commands correctly. You should make the dog understand that it should not obey anyone else except you. The dog should be able to differentiate between the owner's commands and a stranger's commands. It should be trained not to follow the commands of a stranger.

The guard dog should be trained to bark at strangers. When someone is approaching, you have to teach the dog to bark and command it to stop if the person is your friend. When it is a stranger, allow the dog to bark without commanding it to stop. As it barks at a stranger, reward it with a chew toy or a treat.

The dog should be trained not to react to other animals. The dog should be taught not to behave aggressively with other animals like cats. It should also be made familiar with the owner's boundaries.

A guard dog should also be trained to attack an intruder, immediately after the master commands it to do so, and when it may think there is a threat. So, do not leave the dogs when you have visitors at home. The dog may hurt the visitors by misunderstanding their postures as threat. A guard dog should also be acquainted with the other family members and pets in the family. So the family members, other than the trainer, should have a caring and loving relationship with the dog. This will help the dog get familiar with the rest of the family and not perceive the members as threats or intruders.
