How To Train Guard Dog ?

Training dogs to obey your commands and orders has to be started early in life. They will be able to understand and grasp the orders with a lot of ease when young. Their brains take time to process and store different orders just like humans. However, if you start training them late in life, you may have to put in more time and effort to make them understand what you want them to do.

Guard dogs are very useful in any circumstances. Teaching them to be alert and respond when an intruder or stranger is walking too close for comfort helps keep your pet and your family safe from unwanted intrusions.

You have to follow some simple rules while training your pets into guard dogs.

  • Remember to involve all the family members in the process. This way, the dog will not end up barking or feel insecure when your family members are around the area. Every one should interact with the dog and spend equal time to make the pet feel comfortable and loved.
  • Train your dog to be friendly with other pets in your home, if you have any. Also, teach the dog to be calm and non-aggressive with other pets in the locality.
  • Start with simple commands like “sitting”, “standing”, “lying down”, etc. Once he gets used to these commands, you can go in for complex commands like running, barking, etc.
  • Teach your pet to bark loudly and not be perturbed by strange noises of strangers.
  • In addition, you should train the dog in such a way that he listens to your commands alone. He should not obey or respond to strangers when they use the same commands.
  • Discourage your pet to accept or eat any type of food items given by strangers.
  • Try specific hand signals to distinguish one order from the other.
