Pick a breed which is right for the hunting task. The first quality of a hunting dog is its ability. Look for the dogs which can be tamed and also bear outdoor tiring physical activities. This kind of breed should be willing to be outdoors often. It must have good stamina and also have a well built body.

The examples for hunting dog breeds are dachshunds, bloodhounds, basset hounds, labradors, German pointers, mountain curs, beagles and feists. Get a dog when it is still young, so that you can bond with it and communicate properly.
Hunting dogs need a lot of time for training compared to any other dog, which gets trained for any other jobs. The person training should have the patience to train the dog well.

You should train your dog in such a way that it is flexible with the outdoor surroundings. So you have to take your dog out more often and you should leave it free to move around. This should be done before you start the training sessions.

You have to take the dog out once a week and also give him food with required nutrition for the extra physical activity. It should also be provided with good amounts of water, so that it does not get dehydrated.

Make use of the dummy rabbits or the fowls to train your dog how to chase and instruct him to get the object to you. Use the commands frequently, so that it can get used to them easily. Make the training a fun task; it will help both you and the dog. Keep rewarding the dog for its performance while training, and the dog should feel interested and also feel excited about the training.
