Dog Training For Law Enforcement

Dogs have done many brave feats for decades and also saved many lives by sacrificing their own. That is why there are many dogs that are part of today's law enforcement. Dog training for law enforcement is done based on temperament tests. A dog which is used by the law enforcement agency should be stable, comfortable and also be outgoing in new surroundings.

The German shepherd which is used quite frequently by law enforcement has a protective nature and it is loyal to its handler. In the US, patrol dogs used by the law enforcement are trained to follow tracks of suspects by smelling them out, and then holding and biting them. The training style and the dog's temperament will help you know the force a dog can apply when it catches hold of a suspect. The tracking dog standard was set by the bloodhounds years ago. The others breeds are trained to locate and track the evidence and this works better than the bloodhounds

The scent dogs are specialized in tracking a suspect. These specialized dogs are taught to differentiate between kinds of smells and odors. They use their keen sense of smell to fish out illegal narcotics, suspects and even bombs. Detection dogs are specialized in figuring out narcotics. Dogs can naturally detect narcotics and are trained to sniff out any substance relating to narcotics, gases and explosives.

A dog's obedient training starts with simple commands like 'sit'. The department of law enforcement employs or hires a professional trainer who uses positive strength, pressure and inducement techniques to train the dogs for law enforcement. A standard training is for 3 months, and during this period, dogs trained in agility, obedience, recovery and search, tracking and scouting, suspect search, apprehension, bite work, control, protection and tactical deployment.
