How To Stop Cat From Eating Dog Food ?

If you have cats and dogs at home, you would have probably realized the special penchant cats have towards dog foods. They can turn out to be quite irritating and annoying when it comes to preventing them from eating dog’s food. The nutritional requirements of a cat are very different to that of a dog. Therefore, prolonged exposure to dog food will lead to unwanted nutritional deficiencies and sickness in feline creatures.

Cats require more calories compared to dogs because they are more active. Their rates of metabolism are very different to that of canine creatures. Therefore, a prolonged intake of dog food will lead to weight loss and diseases. Cats cannot manufacture taurine or arachidonic acid, nutrients crucial for sustaining life. Dogs on the other hand can manufacture these nutrients within their body and therefore do not require an external supply. Dog foods are understandably devoid of these nutrients. An over exposure to dog foods will leave the cat malnourished. Proteins are required in abundance. Cats require a healthy dosage of non vegetarian foods for survival. Dog foods are not protein rich to support a cat’s diet.

If your cat and dog do not get along well together, you can easily separate them both when its time for feeding. However, if the two animals move together and enjoy each other’s company, you might find it relatively difficult to separate them. However, you can train your dog to eat quickly and finish the meal while the cat is not around. If your dog has a habit of leaving meals, remove the containers immediately lest the cats try feeding on them.
