How To Make Homemade Dry Dog Food ?

If you are not too comfortable buying readymade commercial foods for dogs, you can always prepare them at home. However, remember to maintain the different nutrients requirements proportionately to prevent nutritional deficiencies. In general, dogs of any breed will require at least forty percent meat products, fifty percent vegetables and ten percent starch in their diet. Home made products do not stay longer like commercially prepared ones.

You can make a simple dog food at home by using the following ingredients:

  1. Warm water: 2 cups
  2. Pureed vegetables (carrots, pumpkin, peas, green beans, spinach, broccoli): 3 cups
  3. Ground turkey: 2 cups
  4. Egg: one
  5. Brewer’s yeast: 1 tablespoon
  6. Whole wheat flour: 3 cups
  7. Canola oil: 1 tablespoon

Take a large bowl and add Brewer’s yeast to one cup of water. Mix thoroughly until complete dissolution. Next, slowly add all the aforementioned ingredients with constant stirring until they mix well and dissolve completely to form a thick paste. You can also add more water if required but do not make the paste very thin and watery. Meanwhile, preheat the oven at 350 degrees. Place a baking sheet on a tray. Slowly spread the thick paste on the baking sheet and make sure that it is at least half an inch thick. Cut into small pieces that would be easy for your dog to bite upon. Place the tray in the oven and bake until they turn golden brown (approximately 45 minutes). Allow it to cool completely before removing the tray out. You can refrigerate this for three days.
