Brands Of Low Protein Dog Food

Proteins play a very crucial role in maintaining the health status of animals. Different breeds of dogs require different quantity of proteins. These vital nutrients are required for tissue growth and development. A deficiency of protein intake will lead to stunted physical growth. Immune deficiency and failure to fight numerous diseases is a common symptom of protein deficiency.

However, in certain medical conditions, your dog would require a lower amount of protein intake to prevent complications. This could occur in kidney disorders. Kidneys are the primary organs of excretion. They purify circulating blood and help the body excrete waste products. They are also involved in reabsorbing nutrients. In case of a kidney failure or injury, the animals will not be able to excrete toxic wastes effectively. This will lead to increased accumulation of toxicants in the body and cause several diseases and infections. Proteins in excess have to be excreted out. In case of kidney damage, the body will not excrete urea and other toxic substances (end products of protein digestion) leading to toxicity. If your animal has been diagnosed with a condition of this nature, your veterinarian will immediately advise you to provide your pet with a low protein feed.

Other medical conditions that require a low protein diet are:

  • Acute/chronic kidney failure
  • Glomerular nephritis
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Urinary tract infections/stones

Therefore, a low protein should be considered as an alternative only in disease conditions or disorders. You need to have a prescription certificate from your veterinarian to buy low protein foods because these are not meant to be given for healthy dogs. You get these in dry and canned varieties. The following brands are well known for providing low protein feeds:

  1. Purina Veterinary Diet
  2. Waltham's Royal Canin
  3. Flint River Ranch Senior
  4. Eukanuba Veterinary Diet
  5. IVD Select Care
  6. Hill’s Prescription Diet

Dog-Food-For-Diabetic      Diabetes mellitus occurs when there is insufficient usage of insulin in the body. This could be due to increased food intake causing the number of glucose molecules to overtake the amount of insulin molecules. It could also be due to faulty pancreatic functioning causing a decreased production of insulin. In some cases, the animal’s body is desensitized towards insulin molecules and is therefore not very effective in bringing the glucose levels down. More..
