Best Dog Food For Large Breed Puppy

If you have large breed dogs at home, you might have noticed a common problem affecting their puppies: bone related problems. The problem with large breed puppies is the alarming speed with which they grow. Their growth rate is not coupled with adequate nutritional requirements making the dog’s bones weak and fragile.

Puppies require different nutritional requirements when compared to adult dogs. The rapid growth process and maturation of different tissues and organs automatically puts immense pressure on their nutritional requirements.

Carbohydrates are required in adequate amounts. Puppies are generally very active and energetic than their older counterparts and therefore require adequate supply of energy in the form of carbohydrates. Failure to provide sufficient levels will result in stunted growth and other deformities affecting the overall health of your puppy.

They require a high dose of proteins. These nutrients act like building blocks and aid the body in tissue growth, development and repair. They are vital for healthy functioning of bones, muscles and various organs in the body. Animal proteins like lamb, fish and beef are excellent sources of good quality proteins.

Fats are required for providing energy and carrying out various reactions in the body. They carry fat-soluble vitamins to the respective places helping in better utilization. However, in case of large puppies, fat should be given in moderation to prevent excess weight accumulation. This will place unwanted pressure on the bones leading to fragility.

Calcium plays a crucial role in maintaining bone mineral density. A 1.2 percent of calcium on raw weight basis is considered ideal for large breed pets. Excess calcium intake can also lead to bone related problems causing increased porosity. Therefore, moderation is necessary.
