The journal is a well known Journal, which is subscribed by thousands of veterinarians, dog breeders and dog owners who want to stay abreast with the latest in dog health information.
According to this review, the "Top 10 Dry Dog Foods" (mentioned here in alphabetical order) are: Back to Basics (Chicken formula); California Natural; Canidae; Flint River; Innova; Limited Diet; PetGuard LifeSpan; Pinnacle; Solid Gold; and Wysong.
The Whole Dog Journal team spent several months studying and examining of all the good dry dog food brands in the market. According to them, quality foods should contain best sources of proteins (preferably whole, fresh meats or single-source meats), whole and unprocessed grains, vegetables, and a whole-meat source (preferably chicken or chicken meal instead of chicken fat). They must not contain animal by-products as the primary protein source (since these products are not handled as carefully as whole meat), or food fragments such as brewer's rice and wheat bran as the primary source of grains. The labels must clearly indicate beef fat or lamb meal instead of a generic annotation such as animal fat or poultry fat. The foods must be devoid of any sort of artificial preservatives (such as BHA, BHT or ethioxyquin), artificial colors, or synthetic sweeteners (such as corn syrup, sucrose or ammoniated glycyrrhizin). The food must strictly be devoid of propylene glycol, known for its toxic nature. In short, the Whole Dog Journal team was looking for wholesome, pure, natural, and healthy ingredients in the best dog foods.
