The first point to be noted is dust mites thrive better in hot conditions. The second important thing is that they hate dry places and like reside in humid conditions. A place which ahs relative humidity more than 50 percent would be just idle for them. Having known these important facts let us see the various methods to kill them.
The most time and tested method to remove dust mites from the beds is to wash all the linen in water, which is hotter than 130 degrees F. The curtains must also be washed in a similar manner. The reason for using such a high temperature is that mites would definitely not survive in that temperature.
The next method to remove dust mites is to do the opposite that is freeze the items that have been infested for at least one complete day. The mites are known for their non-existence in colder temperatures. You may try putting one of your pillows that you presume is infested inside the deep freezer for one complete day. The results would be shown the next day.
Another useful way to keep off mites is prepare a mixture of a cup containing vodka and add nearly twenty to thirty drops of eucalyptus oil in it. Spray this mixture on the pillows and the bed number of times in a week. The same spray can also be utilized for other upholstery and carpets.
