The infection can spread through the excretion of dust mites or through the remains of dead dust mites. The most favorable conditions of dust mites are the hot and humid atmosphere. Mites would be thriving fast if the surrounding temperature is anywhere between 75 and 80 deg Fahrenheit, and when the relative humidity exceeds more than 70 percent. Therefore, the first thing to avoid dust mites is to keep the room temperature moderate. In winters, it is easier to maintain a cooler temperature but in summers one has to spend a lot to keep the temperature cool.
Dust mites can be seen in various numbers where the humidity is more although air conditioning the house is an entirely costly affair but one can opt for a cheaper solution, like dehumidifier, to keep the dust mites off.
Dust mites are mostly seen in the bedrooms because humans use this room the maximum. They would be living in the mattresses. To avoid their entry, one can use plastic or synthetic covers over the mattresses. The beddings should be washed regularly. Pillows are the next target area for dust mites, especially those filled with natural fibers. It is very important therefore to keep changing the pillows because most of the old pillows contain dust mites in heavy concentration. When talking about mites, how somebody can forget to mention about the carpets. The tough floors like tiles or woods are better option because they are unable to absorb dust.
