Listed below are the various types of mites and how do they differ from each other.
- Mange - It is not visible through naked eyes. The only way to detect this type of mite infection is through the burrowing effect that is being caused underneath the skin. This type of infection is characterized by its scaly effects on the skin of a dog. It initiates from the ear and then gradually moves towards the rest part of the skin. These causes hair loss in patches and the skin becomes red and scaly. The treatment includes administration of tablets, bathing with formulated shampoo and if the condition is serious they may be given injection for a faster recovery.
- Scabies - This infection can be recognized when your dog has a constant itching and uneasiness. Scabies mites are known to be responsible for causing scabies infection. These mites also affects the skin and once they are in the skin they begin to burrow inside and start laying eggs in the tunnel that has been burrowed by them. These tunnels appear as scaly and very thin lines. The areas which are usually affected by scabies are elbows, legs, ears and abdomen. Scabies also causes hair loss and skin sores. The treatment involves application of special medicated shampoo. The dog should be kept away from children and the other pets at home.
- Walking Dandruff - This type of dog mite infection is clearly visible and is the most common type. The word walking dandruff has arrived from the fact that when one sees the dandruff on the skin, it appears as if it is moving, but actually it is the mites which would be carrying them all along the affected skin. These types of mites can appear on any part of the body, but they are mostly visible on the back. It is seriously infectious and can spread very quickly.
