Canine ear mites are also known as dog ear mites. These are small insects that resides inside the ear canal of a pet. These are mostly found in dogs and are very infectious they can be easily transferred to cats, rodents and other pets of the house. They hide in the ear resulting in inflammation of the ear and cause release of more ear wax. The inflammation of ear due to this is usually very painful and serious. A dog which is affected with this infection is often seen as scratching itself near the ear and shaking or nodding its head repeatedly. If the infection is not treated in time, it can lead to hearing loss and spread over the skin causing rashes, itching and scratching sensation in the back, neck spreading towards the tail portion.
Usually, half of the problems in the dogs related to ear are the result of ear mite infections. There are basically three major causes of ear mite infections in dogs. These are poor hygiene, contaminated surroundings, and ingesting an infected item.
In order to prevent ear mites in dogs, one should go for regular vet visit for over all check up of the pet. The owner should also take some interest by checking the ear of the dog occasionally for any infections. The pet should be groomed well. A regular bath is necessary for the upkeep of hygiene and sanitation. Whenever the dog visits outdoor, it should be cleaned thoroughly. As mentioned earlier, ear mites can be highly infectious and may get spread from one pet to other. However, these mites do not spread to the humans. If you have detected ear mites in your dog, then you must keep the dog away from other pets and give it regular bath until the infection gets treated.
