There are some home remedies that can be tried out for gaining relief from kennel cough. Hydrogen peroxide can be utilized in different ways towards the treatment of kennel cough. Firstly, it is advisable to sterilize of the dog’s utensils with hydrogen peroxide. Instead of feeding the dog with plain water mix water with 3 drops of peroxide and two teaspoons of honey for every eight ounces of water. This mixture will certainly help in easing off the cough. Brushing the dog’s teeth with a similar concoction that is 3 drops of peroxide and two teaspoons of honey with four oz. of water will produce excellent results for the condition.
Apart from mixing honey with hydrogen peroxide, raw honey alone when administered in warm water is known to have a therapeutic effect in conditions of kennel cough. Peppermint tea with honey added to it can also help to soothe the cough. To get the right proportion of peppermint, add 4 teaspoons of dried peppermint leaves into boiling water and strain the tea after keeping on flame for around fifteen 15 minutes. Thereafter honey can be added to for taste and healing. Mixing the wild cherry bark in water and administering this mixture to the dog thrice in a day, works towards subsiding the swelling in the throat. The decrease in the inflammation in turn offers respite from the cough. Using a humidifier in the dog’s vicinity helps to keep the surrounding air moist preventing dryness in the animal’s throat as well.
