What Kills Hookworms ?

Hookworm infection is also known as ancylostomiasis. Humans get infected by coming in contact with hookworm larvae or eggs that are present in soil or feces. The larvae of the hookworm enter the skin through feet usually and get into the blood stream to reach the lungs. Once in the lungs, they will travel up to the trachea or the windpipe and are swallowed.

Then they pass into the digestive tract, and attach themselves to the small intestine. Here they begin to feed from your blood, grow and breed. If the hook worm infection is left untreated, it will lead to iron-deficiency anemia and severe abdominal pain. The best and most effective method of treatment is to take an Albenza tablet. This tablet contains benzimidazole and the chemical compound contains albendazole which is the active ingredient. It is also commonly utilized as a drug to treat several other worm infections. The recommended dosage by the physicians is 400 mg tablet once a day, to be taken along with food.

Another method to treat the infection is taking Pyrantel Pamoate tablets. This effective medication contains two separate active ingredients, mainly pamoic acid and pyrantel. The pamoic acid paralyzes the muscles of the hookworms, and prevents it from attaching itself to the lungs or intestines. This leads the worms dying eventually. The dosage for this medication is 11 mg and is to be taken once a day for a period of 3 days. There are several other medications like Vermox and also home based remedies like eating plenty of garlic.
