- Itchy feet is one of the primary symptoms along with diarrhea and cramps.
- A person can find a pimply rash at the entry site of the worm in the body.
- One can also find pimply rashes on the feet.
- Hook worms can also affect the lungs and cause problems related to it. When the larvae of the worms enter into the lungs they later move into the intestines. When they are in the lungs they can cause wheezing and coughing
- Hook worms also cause gastro-intestinal problems. When the worms infect the bowels or intestines, they can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, intestinal cramps, colic, and nausea.
- When worm infestation gets worse, it can even cause blood in the stool, black stools , and gastrointestinal bleeding
- Hookworms cause anemia as result from gastrointestinal bleeding. Since worms suck blood they can cause pallor, fatigue, malaise, and worm eggs in stool.
Itching and rashes at the site of entry or where the skin touches the soil or sand is the most common sign of infection. These symptoms can occur when the larvae enters the skin. Heavy infections can cause stunted growth and delayed mental development.
