Immiticide is one of the popular medicines that is injected deep inside the lumbar muscle of the dog that has been infected. It is administered in two ways. In the first way, a series of double injections of Immiticide is being given in a gap of 24 hours. In the second option, one dose of Immiticide is firstly given and then after a gap of 30 days another two injections are administered within a gap of 24 hours.
Few vets often initiate the treatment with an ivermectin product like Heartgardplus two to three months before the commencement of Immiticide. It is always preferred to administer doxycycline for a period of 30 to 60 days prior to the commencement of Immiticide treatment.
Heartworm treatment in dogs has certain risks because of the presence an arsenic compound once it is injected inside the body there is a potential of toxicity and moment the adult heartworm start finishing in the heart they may result in emboli of the lungs which causes serious destruction of tissues in the lungs. The only way to prevent this condition is the restriction of dog inside a cage till the course of treatment continues.
