Heartworm Symptoms

For a pet owner the worst thing is to watch his dearer pet suffering from a disease or an infection. There are many instances where a particular condition can be easily treated if it is detected early. Heartworm is one such example which is completely preventable and can be treated with much ease. A lot of pet owners are just not aware of the signs and the symptoms, and fail to acknowledge the problem before it becomes too serious. A close watch on your pet can help you understand the symptoms of heartworm.

Few of the initial symptoms of heartworm are reduction in the weight, reduced appetite and the pet seems to be lethargic. These symptoms could be temporary and may be a outcome of some minor problems but each of these are acknowledged as the initial symptoms of the heartworm. If you notice any of these symptoms, you must take an immediate action and get the pet checked from a vet.

If the pet is actually suffering from heartworm, its weight would be constantly reducing and its appetite would further go down. The ribs would be prominently noticeable and it will have difficulty in breathing. A prominent bulged chest would be seen. Some of them would turn out to be even more lazy just hanging around the corner or sitting on their favorite sofa. They would not like to get up when alarmed or play the game of fetch with the owner. All these should be considered as warning signs and the pet should be taken to the vet for further investigations and treatment.
