Ear mites feed on the wax of the ear but do not suck too much blood. But their existence inside ear canal for a long time causes infection. The debris and tissue fluids that they feed on may cause severe inflammation if left untreated for a long time.
Ear mites’ infection can easily spread to other animals and are common in all dog breeds. The life span of a completely developed ear mite is about 2 months and it takes about 4 weeks of continuous and monitoring and treatment to completely remove the ear mites as both the developed mites and the eggs need to be removed. Sometimes, you may find the ear mites eggs even in the fur of the dog. The eggs generally hatch after 4 days of incubation.
