Canine Influenza Symptoms

Dogs are one of the most lovable and commonly chosen pets. Once the animal is brought home, the responsibility of the pet’s health is the most vital issue. As in the case of small children, pets also have to be nurtured with extreme love and care. One of the most recent variants of influenza in dogs is canine influenza.

Since its initial identification in Florida in the year 2004, the disease is spreading throughout the United States at a rather fast pace. In the year 2005, canine influenza was traced in pet dogs. The infection is also observed to spread rapidly amongst dogs kept in restricted locations like kennels, pet stores, animal shelters and also vet clinics. Fortunately, the disease is not known to have any influence on the human race. In order to protect your pet from canine influenza, it is important to be well versed with the symptoms of the disease so that the infection can be identified and treated at the earliest.

The fundamental reason for the rapid transmission of the infection is that many infected animals actually do not showcase any signs of the disease. It is reported that almost twenty percent of the dogs carrying canine influenza do not exhibit any symptoms of the disease. The symptoms of the disease when evident could be mild or severe in nature. The symptoms falling in the mild category include low grade fever, greenish nasal discharge and dry or productive cough for duration of 10 to 30 days. More intense forms of the infection produce signs that include high fever that could go up to 106 degree Fahrenheit, increase in respiratory rate and breathing disorders. The treatment is quite effective in the form of administration of IV fluids and antibiotics, proper rest and restricted movement. Although the results of the treatment are very promising, pneumonia may develop in more severe forms of the infection which could even pose a risk to the animal’s life.

Parasites :

Canine-Influenza-Vaccine      Canine influenza, commonly referred to as ‘dog flu’ was identified for the first time in 2003 in the United States. The infection is highly communicable and almost any canine exposed to the virus is susceptible to contract the disease as the immune system of canines is not equipped to combat this virus. Since the virus has been recently discovered, therefore, the only animals safe from the disease are those who have already suffered from the same. More..
