Yorkshire terrier is a small dog with a giant personality. This breed is very intelligent, energetic and trustworthy. All these features make the Yorkie a very loving and endearing dog. However, the dog may take some time in learning things, and owner needs to be very patient while training. But, once it is trained, the Yorkshire terrier can become very good companion. |

This breed is very brave and it has a mind of its own, according to which they decide what to learn and what not to learn during the training session given by their owners. The person who is responsible for providing training to a Yorkie should be very determined and consistent.
Teach one thing at a time. Do not give too many instructions at once. Speak clearly or make the exact gesture which makes the Yorkie understand what actually you want it to do. Select a place where other animals and people should not present. Use a tone which makes the dog feel you are serious and it must follow your instructions.
Use the command when calling for serving food. Place the dish containing food near the dog's face, so that it can figure out what is there in food. Praise the dog if he completes the food, but never teach the dog to beg. Take the dog outside the house just after eating and inculcate this habit in him. Give him a reward if he obeys you, but never punish the dog for disobeying you.
A Yorkshire terrier loves attention and hates to be ignored. Praise for good work that will keep it motivated to do your commands positively. However, do not vent your ire on the dog; and understand if he is not responding properly to the training, then somewhere the trainer is responsible for this.
