One of the traditional hairstyle of poodle is the continental clip in which the face, throat and hindquarters of the poodle are shaved including some parts of tail, and the left over hair on tail, ankles and hips are plumped up into pom-poms.
Similar to continental clip is English saddle clip in which front legs are shaved and back leg hair are designed into three large pom-poms very closely so that they can touch each other.
The standard cut for poodles is utility clip or kennel clip. This has been designed for those poodles who do not participate in dog shows. In this cut, the face, feet and base of the tail are shaved and remaining coat is cut with scissors at short length.
The variation of utility clip is the lamb clip in which the face, feet and tail are shaved leaving the hairs on legs fluffy. At the end of tail, a pom-pom is left. In comparison to utility clip, lamb clip has more hair on the whole.
A stylish haircut for poodles residing in cold locales is the town and country clip in which the face, neck, base of the tail and feet are completely shaved together with broad band of hair around the stomach region. Narrow bands are shaved on spine and the remaining coat is left to appear fluffy.
