Haircut needs to be done on the paws of Golden Retrievers because they grow 'slippers'. The fur which grows from the toes to the pads needs to be cut. The best way to trim the fur is by holding the paws pad facing upwards, and by holding the sheers parallel to paw. |

Thinning sheers should be used to give a neat look to the golden retriever. Begin with the inner ear and make use of the thinning sheers to take away the fur. The sheers should be held parallel to the face of the golden retriever. Do not cut the full hair; just trim it. The thinning sheers can be used even at the edges of the ear to thin out the fur rather than cutting off all the fur.
The fur also grows on the chest which can be thick and long. If the dogs are for shows, some owners thin or trim it, but it is not required for the non show dogs. If you want your golden retriever to have a good look, trim the hair along the fur line which already exists. Thinning sheers can be used to loosen the tight curls. If the length of the fur is long, you can get its hair cut.
The tail of the retriever should be held on the tip and then slowly make your way to the base of the tail. Just trim the fur of the golden retriever to make it look neat and not to change its looks. So, make use of thinning sheers to give your golden retriever a trimmed look rather than giving it a real haircut.
