Golden Retriever Food

Golden retrievers are considered to be one of the most intelligent dog breeds. The only problem with them is their health, which includes allergies. These dogs should be fed with good food to help them live longer. Do not feed your golden retriever heavily because it may lead to obesity and cause hip dysplasia. This breed requires healthy diet, exercise and veterinary care to be healthy all through its life.

Commercial food is available at pet store with different kinds of ingredients and also prices. A commercial food which is healthy will have ingredients like lean meats, along with some grains and vegetables. Do not get the cheap brands because they have lot of corn and wheat grains. It should contain lot of meat followed by rice. Avoid soy and peanuts. Probiotics will also help in keeping this breed healthy.

Fresh food like the table scraps will give your dog the much needed minerals and vitamins, because commercial food is not rich in them. You can feed a golden retriever with the food from your kitchen and check that it maintains weight which is healthy. Food such as chicken liver and chicken, peaches, apples, beet roots, carrots and peas are important food for this breed.

As per the Golden Retriever Club of America, if the puppy has grown quickly, there is a risk of getting hip dysplasia. The club says that the puppy’s growth should be in a slow and steady manner. There should be any sudden spurts of growth. Also, a golden retriever's ribs should be easy to feel, but at the same time they should not be prominent. The food should help the puppy grow without making it fat or obese. So, if you own a golden retriever, make sure you choose the food carefully.
