The weight of a Beagle depends on the sex, age, fitness and the general build of the breed. Typically, a beagle weighs between 18 and 30 pounds. Beagles also gain weight due to the nature of their bones. Some of the beagles have lighter bone weight and hence, weigh less, while some dwarf varieties can weigh as much as 18 pounds due to their bone weight. |

The food habits and the activity levels of the beagle also influence the weight of the pet.
A healthy beagle should not have a hanging tummy. You may be able to see a hint of the ribs when viewed from their sides or you may feel the ribs on touching the skin. The chest is barrel shaped and hence, the owner should not mistake it for a belly.
Obesity is quite common among Beagles and the pet owner needs to watch out and monitor for this problem as this can lead to other health complications. If your pet is gaining weight rapidly, try to increase the activity level and reduce food consumption. Cut down on the dog biscuits and replace it with raw carrots. You would be controlling the calorie intake. Increase the exercise levels for the pet and make sure the weight loss is steady and not sudden. Do not reduce the food drastically. Your pet may suffer from hunger. Supplement fatty foods with other veggies like canned beans or canned pumpkin (with less or no salt), steamed vegetables, fibrous varieties, etc. So-called lite dog food is also available but whether you need to switch to these kind of foods is quite debatable.
