Basenjis have long legs and furrowed forehead that is wrinkled. Hence, they may look worried. The ears look straight and the tail is curled. The almond shaped eyes are small. They have a flat skull and muscular thighs. Basenji males can grow to a height of 41 to 43 cm. The females can grow as tall as 15 inches. The weight varies anywhere between 20 and 26 pounds.
Basenjis are highly active and require open space to run around. They are quite independent; hence, if you are looking for obedience, this is probably not the right breed to choose as a pet.
Basenjis may not mix very well with strangers. Hence, if you want your pet to entertain your guests, you may have to go for another breed. Similarly, if you have small children at home, you may not want to go for a Basenji as they do not like chasing or pulling.
It is very important to train a good temperament for your pet. This is because Basenjis can be quite aggressive with other dogs. Though they are called barkless, they express vocally through screams, whines and shrieks.
