Characterized by the loose skin that hangs in deep folds, especially around the head and neck areas, Bloodhounds are large dogs that have been used for many years by hunters, search teams, law enforcement personnel and for rescue operations because of their strong ability of tracking by smell.

Bloodhound puppies have unique requirements and therefore need special care by their owners. Puppies are like children and need special attention before they grow up to be independent. Bloodhound puppies tend to be very clumsy for the first few months of their life and therefore need constant supervision.

As soon as you find an ideal bloodhound puppy to bring home, you must make available all necessary items for him such as a puppy bed, teething and chew toys, a puppy crate to transport him properly, shampoos, and most importantly puppy food. Remember to buy the best quality puppy food after checking all the ingredients. You can even cook your puppy food at home.

Visit your veterinary doctor along with the puppy before you get him home. Get him checked thoroughly for any abnormalities or medical complications. Carefully transport your puppy in a crate. Introduce him to all family members and other pets and supervise the bloodhound puppy when it is left alone in the company of other pets. To avoid any friction between the pets or to prevent accidents of any sort, use a puppy crate and leave your bloodhound puppy in it for as long as you are busy and unable to supervise it. Maintain strict timings for feeding and be sure to take him outdoors frequently, especially after meals or after a nap. Very soon your bloodhound puppy will grow up to become a very affectionate and devoted companion.
