Beagle Puppy Personalities

The Beagle originated in England and is considered as an excellent hunting dog owing to its strong sense of smell. They are extremely energetic, independent, outgoing, and stubborn dogs.

Beagles are lively, playful and curious and have a warm, pleasant and friendly personality. They are constantly in need of companionship and beg for attention all the time. They get along well with other dogs, cats or any other pets in the household and simply adore children if trained to socialize properly. They are usually not at all aggressive towards human beings. If there are intruders into its territory, the Beagle usually ends up playing and having fun with the intruder instead of engaging in a battle and protecting the territory. However, it does growl and convey its displeasure at having an intruder inside its territory.

They are packed with loads of energy and therefore prefer to have an active life. They hate to be kept indoors or in the backyard all the time. They tend to get bored easily and resort to destructive activities inside the home or digging and barking, and constantly look for ways to get out and have fun. They usually love to take long walks or to go on a long run along with their owners. However, curious as they are by nature, it is advisable to strictly supervise the movements of a beagle instead of leaving them free.

Since they are quite stubborn, independent and disobedient by nature, Beagles need to be trained through an intensive training process. They need obedience classes right from the beginning. However, the instructor must be fair, consistent and firm in his approach rather than being harsh or cruel when training the Beagle.
