The Shih Tzu was a gift from the Tibetan monks to the Chinese emperor some 1,400 years ago. During that period eunuchs were the care taker for the dogs. In China it was named as Lion Dog due to its mane resembling to that of lion and was regarded as lucky charm. Later on it gained popularity in Asia also. Lady Browning was the first one to take this dog to England and later on it became very popular.

And, 3.8 million dogs die in homes, accidents, and veterinary hospitals; and 2.4 die in the shelters. Every year 7.3 million dogs are acquired by the owners from breeders and pet stores, 1 million dogs are taken from the animal shelters and 5 million are adult strays.
