Tapeworms, scientifically referred to as Dipylidium caninum, are parasitic worms that look like a flat tape and it can grow from 50 cm to 70 cm in length. They attach themselves to the intestines where they suck on the nutrients and lay eggs to propagate.

Hookworm infection is also known as ancylostomiasis. Humans get infected by coming in contact with hookworm larvae or eggs that are present in soil or feces. The larvae of the hookworm enter the skin through feet usually and get into the blood stream to reach the lungs. Once in the lungs, they will travel up to the trachea or the windpipe and are swallowed.

The larvae of hookworms are usually picked up by dogs because they tend to eat them unknowingly or the worms are contracted through the paws. Dogs have the habit of digging mud and the hookworm always is found in contaminated soil.
